Medical Officer: Retainer – UNOC

ESSENTIAL DUTIES

  • Conduct health and fitness assessments for staff and provide reports with recommendations on their health and wellness status.
  • Provide medical advisory services to all UNOC staff on consultation.
  • Provide support in the management of epidemics and emergency health incidents arising out of major calamities and other staff medical emergencies
  • Manage the referral process for all staff medical cases.
  • Manage the care process for staff in need of chronic care.
  • Conduct illness preventive initiatives including health education, immunization, counselling programs for staff.
  • Review and analyse medical reports from health insurance providers and advise Management on the health status of staff with recommendations for improvement.
  • Participate in inspecting various medical facilities where UNOC staff receive treatment and make necessary recommendations.
  • Coordinate effective rescue of UNOC staff in emergency situations, liaise with ambulance services and various hospitals/clinics to save life.
  • Review staff medical claims and make recommendations for re- imbursements.
  • Assess staff or stations with critical health problems and make recommendations to Management.
  • Develop periodic Health Education Articles to sensitize staff on emerging health issues that affect them.
  • Support UNOC HR on issues in the HRMM related to health of staff.
  • Ensure consistent and accurate medical records keeping practises.
  • Provide the oversite role of the UNOC on-site clinic(s).
  • Provide technical guidance to Management on any other health related issues that may affect staff.
  • Undertake any other duties incidental to the role.

Qualifications & Experience

  • At least a Master’s degree in medicine (MMed).
  • Must have a valid practising certificate.
  • Training in occupational & public health.
  • At least five (05) years of proven specialist/consultant experience in medical practice as a physician.
  • At least three (03) years of experience in offering similar services to recognized institutions in Uganda. (At least three reference letters should be provided)
  • General experience of the Consultant in providing public health initiatives including among others; health education, immunization, counselling programmes, HIV /AIDS care, family planning, non-communicable diseases prevention
  • Clinical risk management experience
  • Advanced knowledge of medical research methodology and ethics
  • Extensive knowledge of medical recordkeeping practices
